A ledger board is the board that fastens an attached pergola or roof to the house wall, and must be flashed to keep water out.

A ledger board bolts to the home’s framing to support one side of an attached pergola, patio cover, or roof. Proper installation requires lag bolts into structural framing and metal flashing behind and over the ledger to prevent water intrusion and rot — the detail that protects the wall.
